April 13th Workshop – Volunteer Management UPDATE

Due to the weather there has been a travel delay for our workshop presenter. The workshop will now run Saturday April 13th from 1:00pm-5:00pm at the Rodd Royalty. We will continue to keep you updated online as well as Ocean 100 if anything should change.

A common challenge facing all festival and event organizers is the pressure to find and keep quality volunteers from year to year. Successful events require dedicated volunteers who are passionate and engaged, whether they are taking tickets at a gate or organizing talent for a concert.

We are proud to announce our 2013 workshop entitled:

Managing Volunteers From a Festival Perspective, with Cheryl Sluis, Manager of Volunteer Resources and Strategic Initiatives from the Winnipeg Folk Festival.

The Winnipeg Folk Festival is an incredibly successful year-round arts organization that presents one of North America’s premier outdoor music festivals each July.

The organization has more than 2,800 dedicated volunteers who contribute well over 56,000 hours of labour each year to create the magic that is the Winnipeg Folk Festival.

This great opportunity will be held:

Date: Saturday, April 13, 2013

Time:   9:30am – 3:30pm

Where: Rodd Royalty Inn, 14 Capital Drive, Charlottetown

Members of Festivals & Events PEI have free admittance into this great workshop, $25.00 for non members

2014 Proposal-writing workshops

Are you 2014-ready? Can we help with your sesquicentennial pitch?

The PEI 2014 Fund deadlines loom, and in the coming weeks Culture PEI will host four proposal-writing workshops for the arts and cultural community. The 2014 celebrations present a unique opportunity for PEI’s artists, artisans, and arts organizations to share their creativity and passion with Islanders, Canadians and Island visitors. Culture PEI wants as many arts and culture-inspired PEI 2014 Fund applications to succeed as possible, so we are hosting workshops to share proposal-writing strategies and 2014 insights.

Some questions we’ll try to answer include: How can arts and heritage fit into the language, goals and nuances of the PEI 2014 Fund? Why are partnerships important, and who can your proposal partners be? Who can supply the “in kind” contributions in your proposal? What are some examples of community organizations that could serve as proposal applicants that engage artists, artisans and performers? Whether you’re contemplating a PEI 2014 idea or pursuing one, join veteran proposal writer and Island performer Patrick Ledwell and Culture PEI’s Henk van Leeuwen at one of these workshops:

Mon., Nov. 26 @ 7pm – The Guild in Charlottetown

Wed., Nov. 28 @ 7pm – Conference Room C of Credit Union Place in Summerside

Mon., Dec. 3 @ 7 pm – The Guild in Charlottetown

Wed., Dec. 5 @ 7 pm – Montague Rural Action Centre

All of these workshops are free, and all of them will begin at 7 pm. Please register your attendance with Culture PEI, specifying the date and location, by emailing kristine@culturepei.ca. For more information, please call 367-4460 or followCulture PEI at www.culturepei.ca and on Facebook and Twitter.
